Your Inner Critic is Lying to You — Here’s How to Hear Your Truth Instead

Updated: Aug 18, 2025

Negative thought patterns can feel impossible to shake. They become habits — programmed into your mind as ways to keep you “safe” or to help you conform to certain expectations. But over time, those old mental programs stop serving you. Instead, they pull you away from being your authentic self.

And here’s the truth: not being true to yourself is what creates stress, anxiety, and even depression.

When you learn to quiet your mind, you clear out the interference that blocks you from your natural guidance system — your feelings and your intuition. Those are the inner signals meant to guide you along your path.

Why Quieting the Mind Matters

We live in a noisy world. If you work, interact with others, or simply scroll online, you’ve absorbed layers of mental programming. That constant chatter makes it hard to hear your own wisdom.

Quieting your mind doesn’t mean “thinking your way out” of negative thoughts. It means feeding your spirit so your inner critic loses power — and your intuition grows stronger.

Common Ways to Quiet the Mind

  • Meditation: A proven practice, but one that takes patience and consistency. Success varies depending on how regularly you practice.

  • Guided Visualizations: A simple way to redirect the mind. By focusing on imagery and intention, the mental chatter softens and space opens for clarity. (Click here for my free guided visualization gift to you: Breath of Light by Linda Bertaut.)

My Favorite Method: Reiki Healing

Reiki is my favorite way to quiet the mind. Reiki calms the emotions and creates a peaceful state within. And when you feel peaceful, you gain direct access to your feelings and intuition — the inner compass that guides you to clarity and truth.

Through Reiki, you learn how to fill yourself with healing energy so that your inner critic quiets down and your authentic self shines through. With regular practice, you’ll feel:

  • Peaceful and grounded

  • Calm and focused

  • Confident in being yourself

This is the gift of Reiki: it helps you return to your true nature.

Learn How to Heal Yourself

The beautiful part is that anyone can learn Reiki. In my Intro to Energy Healing with Reiki Level 1 online course, I’ll teach you how to use Reiki to heal yourself, quiet your mind, and access the guidance that’s always been within you.

When your spirit is fed and your mind is calm, your inner critic has no choice but to step aside — and that’s when your intuition becomes the voice you trust most.
